Well… that goes without saying, doesn’t it? It’s a church after all.
Tour guides? Translators? Signers for the deaf… please explain…
Well, when I was there it was explained that local people still use the church for services, prayer, etc but because of its location it also draws a ton of tourists, many of whom want to give very long-winded explanations etc about the history, etc. Tours are allowed inside, but information about the church can only be given outside. Although the sign is unintentionally hilarious, the idea behind it is to respect the people actually using the church for worship by not acting like you’re in a museum.
And you were probably being facetious…but oh well!
That’s why they call it “faith.”
My jaded side isn’t surprised at all. The rest of me keeps trying to see it another way, but only manages to feed back into the “not surprised” sentiment.
…it’s because religion provides no actual explanations of anything…to have an actual explanation, you need science. And since science is based on reality, it’s not welcome in any church. Seems pretty straightforward to me.
i fucking hate you.
you atheistic piece of shit. live your hollow shell of a life, then when you die you can burn in hell.
Your rebuttal is FAIL, moron.
He doesn’t believe in hell, so he’s not scared of going to that non-existent place.
Now go suck a priest’s dick or whatever you retarded christian types do for fun these days.
wow, you must be a complete fagot.
only guys who are homosexual will make sucking dick comments.
fagot: bundle of sticks
faggot: working kitchen appliances
Really? That’s news to me. I guess I’m a fagot… but I’m a girl…
I see you honour your religion more in the breach than the observation.
FSM does not approve of your shenanigans.
YOU are the reason people hate religion.
…you do realize that in your reply there you not only violated the teachings of whatever religion you ascribe to, but you also succinctly demonstrated that religion is, above all else, the primary source and well of hatred and intolerance in the world. Always has been, always will be. Please take your hatred elsewhere.
How did he demonstrate that religion is the primary source and well of hatred and intolerance, there will always be bigots, jerks and murderers etc, don’t blame religion for people’s failings as people as a majority of religions don’t promote hate and, for the most part, are intended to act as a moral compass as to how one should live one’s life. Just be nice everyone, don’t make light of people’s beliefs by posting something we’ve all heard before for no actual reason other than to apparently evoke anger, and don’t go crazy and swear and condemn people to hell. *why can’t we be friends starts playing*
I blame religion for people’s failings. I make light of people’s beliefs.
i blame religion ON people’s failings.
IMO religion was integral to the understanding of life and all that was around us in the past to a larger extent then it is required now to communicate the reasoning behind things, as science continues to unlock the mysteries of existence, but it’s still important for a lot of people to explicate things yet to be clarified by science, such as consciousness and to act as a moral compass.
yes, the need for answers that for milleniah noone could be bothered finding so someone just pulled one out of their ass and soon tyranically ruled the population on the basis of ‘ god given power’ and ‘heresy’
Why would you make an excuse for murderers and rapists, that has nothing to do with religion, they’re just crazy, inconsiderate people and it’s their own fault for perpetrating such attacks and to an extent potentially their upbringing (that can’t take much of the blame though, you’re in control of your own actions).
i am saddened that i must share a plane of existence – created or developed – with evangelistical nutcases like you
Not exactly true – lots of churches of all denominations are completely open and welcoming to scientific ideas and don’t see that interfering with their spiritual beliefs. It’s mostly the Protestant fundies that have issues with science.
also: catholics.
Least they don’t try and convert as much as the door to door Mormons:P
scientology…*shudder*
I have no idea where this picture was taken, but in Jerusalem these are all over the churches. It is mostly due to the fact that those churches are regularly being used, and loud explanations would disrupt the service. That being said, the sign was only posted in English. I guess only English speakers are the ones who need to be reminded to be respectful….
“I refuse to prove that I exist,” says God, “for proof denies faith, and without faith I am nothing.”
“But,” says Man, “the Babel fish is a dead giveaway isn’t it? It could not have evolved by chance. It proves you exist, and therefore, by your own arguments, you don’t. QED.”
“Oh dear,” says God, “I hadn’t thought of that,” and promptly vanishes in a puff of logic.
He never would have made it beyond the “what is the air speed velocity of an unladed swallow?” question.
was it carrying a coconut?
no it was UNLADEN
So it was carrying a shoe bomb.

This is on the church at the Garden of Gethsemane in Jerusalem – I have the exact same picture from when I was there a few years ago. Awesome!
I don’t get this sign, can someone explain it to me? Outside, of course, I don’t want to offend anyone.
The sign is posted on an old church that is a popular tourist destination. The tour guides like to give long-winded explanations of the history and the architecture of the curch, but this disrupts the people who are in the church for actual worchip, rather than tourism. Thus, while tourists are allowed inside the church, they have to keep their explainations outside.
Haha I’ve been there, my pastor made a joke about that sign. They actually have them a lot of places in Israel. I think maybe they need to think a little harder about their wording before they put up a sign
Yes, something like “Quiet Please.”
for 2 years my science teacher was a priest (one of the order tha founded and long opperated the school) and he ran a highly satisfactory section on genetics including a full and proper piece on evolution.
That would be the same order that is currently under investigation for generations of hidden and protected institutional abuse in schools in Germany. Yes, the teachers *are* well-educated. If my kids’ gender-identities are destroyed, I sure want it to be done by a good teacher.
Gee, I wonder who voted this picture DOWN. Theists are almost comical in their predictability.
