Interesting fact, these women are from a tribe in Thailand where long necks are considered beautiful. Needless to say, if the rings around their necks are removed, they will suffocate. I suppose that idea of body modification for beauty is akin to our idea of tattoos or body piercings being beautiful.

What’s WTF about this? The tribal women that put rings on their necks visited Buckingham Palace. I agree that it looks a little strange, but not WTF.

Actually, they don’t so much put them on, as they never take them off. After enough rings, your neck becomes unable to support itself and you can’t take them off.
The ‘rings’ don’t extent the neck so much as push the shoulders down. It’s actually a brass coil rather than closed rings. They are able to uncoil it off for cleaning, ‘upgrades’ and it doesn’t affect the ability to hold the head up without them.

im pretty sure thats not buckingham palace, the gate in backround is tiny whilst the gate to buckingham palace is huge. this is probbaly in some part of the empire back in the day
