Why is this funny? I’m not usually the stick-in-the-mud, but I have had enough of people saying that torturing or killing cats is FUN AND AMUSING. This is sick. People who advocate the mistreatment of cats are beneath contempt. THIS REALLY IS NOT FUNNY, IT IS JUST SICK. Yes, I have a cat, and I would not be just as angry if someone laughed about electrocuting your beloved DOG.

I (well, actually my wife) have three cats. And you know what? I think this is funny. Being a pet owner has not robbed me of my sense of humor, nor have I somehow taken leave of my senses and assumed that some Photoshopping is advocating animal abuse. I’m just as anti-animal abuse as you, I just know how to laugh at something that’s obviously meant as a joke and doesn’t harm anyone or anything.
I have three rabbits, a hamster, a guinea pig, a dog, and a cat.
This is funny as hell, because it’s a joke.
If somebody actually DID it, history shows that the Internet Hate Machine would fire up and steamroll the perpetrator into submission.
We laugh at FAKE cat abuse and related jokes because we love cats.
Fair enough and I’ll clarify my point. The image itself is weird but harmless. My real anger comes from the flurry of responses that say this is a great idea and who advocate this sort of thing as genuinely entertaining and socially permissible. “We’re just kidding!” doesn’t cover it because of the people who actually DO enjoy this sort of thing FOR REAL. It fear that one day I’ll find my cat dead because some sick pervert decided he was bored and wanted to run down a small animal to amuse his drunk buddies. Doubt this happens? Google is your friend.

That actually happened to my cat. Some jerk swerved off the f***ing road to hit my cat. She was still alive, but she was too badly wounded and broken to even move. We had to euthanize her. :’(

this project should have been submitted to the ethics committee for approval before being carried out. It would not have passed.

Use of pain in research on vertebrates requires licence.
What publishing history does the chief scientist in the project have on related topics? (None, I guess)
Has sufficient work been done to design a methodology which can address the aim of the project without the use of vertebrates and without the use of pain?
Has the research proposal been submitted for approval to a peer review panel?
Also the study is poorly designed – the design does not distinguish between cats dislike of pain and dislike of electricity (and dislike of being hooked up to batteries).
