Did his sanity and wit vanish?

  5. ninja face says:

why would you bother painting a dog purple.

  6. trixieindixie says:

It’s the new form of busking (street performing) in the UK. They do it for money. This guy is in the shopping area known as The Shambles in York, England. I saw him and took his picture when I was there in June. The dog isn’t real. Duh.

  7. howling techie says:

Hey, I saw him in York as well!

  8. Ohhainaobai says:

This is taken ten minutes away from where I live, and believe it or not this man does this rain or shine… I actually think its his main source of income…

  9. Phoenix says:

  15. o0o0o says:

    Is that Alec Baldwin?

  16. Mechnohan says:

It looks like the Mad Hatter got butted by the teletubbies

  17. ~J~ says:

As a few have said, it’s a bloke in York (that looks to be down Stonegate in the pic as Little Betties tea pot is on the left). He’s been there a few years now, got a picture myself of him taken at Christmas 2005 and he’s there nearly every day.

  18. WarDragon says:

    I like his tie.

  19. John E. says:

I want to be purple for Halloween!

  20. Barometz says:

Purple Man! Yep, York, I live about 15mins from there. Tis indeed Stonegate, just outside the Evil Eye Lounge. There used to be a yellow man as well a few years ago, wonder what happened to him?…

  21. Beth says:

I saw him in York too. :)

  22. Sosij man says:

i saw this guy in York!

  23. madcow says:

    I love being purple!

  24. Edd says:

I live in York and often pass this guy – he didn’t used to be purple – his original act was standing in the street pretending to be blown away, with an inside-out umbrella and glasses akimbo etc. Then one christmas he did the same act, but added a podium, painted the whole thing purple and added a bow so that it all looked like a present. Which brings us to present day – presumably he couldn’t get the purple out, so he just went with it. I personally think it’s a bit lame – he just stands there all day and people give him money – it’s no better than begging – he never does anything new or interesting…

  25. Jason says:

Yeah I recognise this – it’s in the Shambles in York…

  26. Luke says:

you know the guys on LSD right?

  27. speedkermit says:

Sod Purple Man, what happened to the Amazing Zombies? They rocked York back in the day.

  28. Quinny says:

Hey, York is making it big time! He was something different but during tourist season he used to block up The Shambles. Used to annoy the hell out of me.

Yellow man left a while ago, now we just have a woman who can’t play the violin properly, 2 pianists (complete with upright pianos) and a man who dresses up as a witch with a kazoo.

Come to York! We’re completely normal… (don’t forget the Vikings and the Romans that wander around too).

  29. krissy87 says:

    @Quinny
    Don’t forget the ghosts ;) … I loved York…♥

  30. dim says:

I don’t know what you’re doing, but GO, MAN, GO!

  31. mitchell says:

It’s not Shambles in York, it’s Stonegate.

  32. madcoweasy says:

So much mystery about this man it seems. I know that he is a published author, does film stuff and is very low profile when not purple. I understand he used to have companies and all that stuff but gave up the corporate stuff after visiting the Indian Sub-Continent. I have one of his books, written ‘BP’ – before purple. I’d give a link but it’s out of stock according to amazon.
York is an amazing place and lucky to have world-class performers like this who are always missed when not around. Hi to Edd (yes mate, I know what a sad and lonely life you have) – seems you are jealous of this guy because he everything you are not. Dude, peace out bro.

  33. amber says:

oh my god! i live there! i feel oddly proud…

  34. madcoweasy says:

    @Edd
Edd, are you jealous that you couldn’t think of something so incredible? If you had taken the time to stand and watch this guy you’ll realise that his art is very fine-tuned, going the extra mile to give out joy to stangers. I have been watching him for about 8 years and seen his acts evolve and know he has performed for the National Trust, Body Shop, Toyota UK, Marie Curie Cancer Care Charity, Night Clubs across the UK, an Agricultural Show (he sat on top of a life-size purple cow) and so on. He was the guy who made BBC News at Ten when he watched a World Cup Football game while sitting on a bed of nails. He’s been on Sky TV and appeared in newspapers, magazines and books around the world. I was there while he was doing an interview for Channel Four News. Anyway, this guy is a living legend – they should make a statue to commemorate the amazing work he does. If you are in York, stop and have a chat with this guy – life changing in my experience! York is Purple and Stonegate rocks. I was reading a book on York only yesterdat and Purpleman was in it. One of his fans died recently, a small boy who had been coming to see Purpleman for many years. Because of the joy Purpleman gave this child the parents of ths little boy placed something purple in his coffin, a gift Purpleman had given the child. That made me cry.

  35. Onoz says:

Yeah purple guy – I love sitting in Evil Eye and watching everyone give him funny looks!

  36. asdfasdf says:

Gogol Bordello has a song called “Start Wearing Purple” because purple is the color of insanity.

  37. Emmma360 says:

I’ve seen this guy in real life. He’s in York. He’s brilliant.

  38. oxboz says:

Crazee dude, where are you going so fast man? Great picture. My sister saw him when she was over in England. Awesome purple dog. Does this guy move? York huh? Cool.

  39. laura says:

omg!! i have a picture with this guy!!! i went to york its in the uk if you dont no and he was there haha
york is like half an hour from me !!
i never actually thought i would see this on here lol
im well pleased ive seen him lol

  40. Joss says:

I know this guy! Honestly, he sits on Stonegate in York, England all day everyday. I used to distribute flyers for a Haunted house just down from him and I used to chat to him. He a bit of a tit actually. It may seem strange but he actually takes himself way too seriously!

Wish I could remember his name.

    • Joss says:

Oh and I once asked him how he gets off the paint of an evening and he told me he doesn’t bother because his girlferiend loves his purple head. He the kind of guy that tells the same jokes all day long and still thinks he’s hilarious.

  41. yorkenders says:

Cool, I know him too. I disagree with Joss (or is it Toss?….my screen is wonky!!!!) – he’s amazing and makes York the vibrant city it is. I speak to him too and he’s not in the least bit serious so maybe he was winding you up lol! I know the Haunted House in York….are you the guy with a beard and specs or the little lad who looks like a girl? Seriously though, love him or not, Purpleman is sensational imho.
