In a few centuries Hinduism won’t be so much a religion as much as a multi leveled, character based, entertainment conglomerate and it will crush Islam, Christianity and the Disney Corporation. The only other religion that will still be in a competitive scale will be Scientology, which will have transformed itself into a giant law firm.
Actually this does follow some of the Hindu thematic flow as their gods have multiple aspects and sub incarnations, each major god has tons of “secret identities” as represented by their stylized variation of having multiple faces.

This is what I like about Hinduism. Its worshippers are obviously cool with this. If somebody put Jesus in a Spider-Man costume, there’d be protesters storming the parade.

That’s probably because of the above-mentioned idea of Hindu gods having multiple aspects. (This is, of course, assuming that it wasn’t just done for a joke.) On the other hand, one of the main ideas in modern Christianity (because I haven’t studied medieval or early Christianity, and am thus unqualified to speak for them) is that Jesus is the ONLY incarnation of God.

If David Lynch had his way, there would be alot more things wrong with Hindu-spidey.
Ganesha is seen as the Remover of Obstacles, so anyone or anything that takes action to remove obstacles can be seen as exhibiting an aspect of the divine, in the form of Ganesh. The people who made this statue are saying that the heroic nature that we admire in the fictitious character of Spider-Man is an expression of the divine within us all, and should be honored. Also, it’s FUN. Bravo!
