I usually expect my candidates to have a nice close shave, but I think I’ll vote for the Wookie party this next election. I think they have good things to say.
By the way, I don’t think that historically that flag started off as a white sup. flag. It was featured in a political cartoon just prior to the revolutionary war, symbolic of the 13 colonies. How’s that for your bit of trivia of the day=)
the snake is divided into thirteen parts, representing each of the original colonies. the flag pictured is actually the second version of this symbolism and is known as the Gadsden Flag, named after a Colonel who was one of the first marines deployed to intercept the British. It was his personal standard. Benji Franklin first used the snake with the message “Join or Die” (he made a comment regarding sending rattlesnakes to England to thank them for all the criminals they were sending to the colonies).
He’s here, he’s there, he’s in your hair. That Ron Paul is everywhere.
I’m guessing that Wookie lives here in the Intermountain West. I swear there were more Ron Paul signs than there are people per square mile.
Unfortunately some bigoted dicks have adopted the Gadsden flag, the first Naval Jack and other early flags to be less obvious than using the Confederate battle flag. Said early flags have nothing to do with scumbag beliefs.
Yeah, seriously. Don’t Tread On Me has nothing to do with white supremacy, and neither does Ron Paul. Where do the libertarian-haters come up with the idea that Ron Paul is racist anyway? Yeesh.
That picture was taken in New Hampshire before the NH Primary in 2008. The man in the wookie suit does a lot of promotion and activism in NH (such as FIJA promotion, you can find the FIJA wookie pictures online as well). He was a participant in the Free State Project (Freestateproject.org)
Wow, this is actually quite symbolical if you think about it hard enough. Then again, if you’re thinking about it too hard, you’re probably using up too much RAM you don’t have.
Ok, I haven’t seen any correct explanations of the flag yet, so I’ll set the record straight. It’s called the Gadsen Militia flag. It is not associated with white supremacy. It is not the “Unite or Die” snake either. It originated as a militia flag during the revolutionary war. The rattlesnake explained by Benjamin Franklin:
“I recollected that her eye excelled in brightness, that of any other animal, and that she has no eye-lids—She may therefore be esteemed an emblem of vigilance.—She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage.—As if anxious to prevent all pretensions of quarreling with her, the weapons with which nature has furnished her, she conceals in the roof of her mouth, so that, to those who are unacquainted with her, she appears to be a most defenseless animal; and even when those weapons are shewn and extended for her defense, they appear weak and contemptible; but their wounds however small, are decisive and fatal:—Conscious of this, she never wounds till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of treading on her.—Was I wrong, Sir, in thinking this a strong picture of the temper and conduct of America?”
It has recently become associated with groups who desire a return to the principals of the Constitution, states rights groups, groups who advocate less government, etc.
The snake looks like the snake off Metallica’s “Black Album” and “Don’t Tread On Me” is a song off that album… TWO MetallicA references in one pic = awesome
first one and all i can thinkl of is seeing the rattlesnake flags all over in san diego!
I love Ron Paul fans. You never know what to expect.
I usually expect my candidates to have a nice close shave, but I think I’ll vote for the Wookie party this next election. I think they have good things to say.
And they already threatened to tear my arms off.
“Now think about it; that does not make sense!”
Janet Reno! Get out of that snow you silly girl, it’s cold!
And leave Ron Paul’s sign alone!
I don’t know if I should laugh at the picture as a whole or that the flag he is holding/making fun of is a white supremacist flag.
@Chris
Oops. Certainly *NOT* their symbol.
I love Ron Paul! (but I am not a wookie)

I am a Wookie but have never heard of Ron Paul. But I may tear his arms off anyway!

@ jonnielaw
I thought I was the only one who said “Benji Franklin”. Heh.
Why does this not surprise me?
Wow, this is actually quite symbolical if you think about it hard enough. Then again, if you’re thinking about it too hard, you’re probably using up too much RAM you don’t have.

You must acquit.

I don’t really care about the political crap.
